Feb 20, Kat Connors rated it really liked it Shelves: Although this isn’t the most well-written first hand account the lack of style also reflects the insanity that the author lived through. Author reads the book! An hour or so in, and none of those initial fpr shortcomings mattered.
This makes sense as the people were given positions, technical and administrative, based on their willingness to put up with mental abuse, exhaustion, malnourishment, and adhere to the rules, rather than any ability. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon. There is such a dichotomy between the treatment of people with money and the people who work for the organization, between what’s written and how it’s interpreted the hypocrisy of what is taught and what is practicedthe story will affect you.
There’s one funny scene in which he has to be “audited” by Tom Cruise, and the motorcycle ride that ensues, blonw search of bee pollon. But this is a fast-paced, page-turner of a book, and his courage and competence come through over and over in the tale of his survival, his fifteen years as a serving member, and his eventual harrowing escape.
For example, he gets married, and then 13 years later when he wants to leave he’s desperate to contact his wife.
Having lived in Tampa about 30 minutes from the Clearwater location for over 20 years I was familiar with scientology but always thought it was goood harmless group of self helpers.

I am so glad that he has shared his story. It sounds like the author narrator was too far from the microphone or something which caused a little too much reverb. Imperfect Justice Updated Ed. Bloan I say more? So what really happens there? This first hand account of life at Scientologies Gold Base is eye opening.
I am not saying I believe everything that comes out of psychiatry at all, but Hubbard and the current Scientologists still won’t have anything to do with them. I even shed bliwn tear at the end: I cannot get enough about cults and extremist religions in the US.

Her childhood was stolen from her, she was clearly brainwashed and mentally tortured. That makes me angry. Headley was a matc when his mother became heavil I have been researching Scientology for years, and this book is the most fascinating I have ever read about what it was like to be in Scientology from a young age and the horrific journey the author had to have in order to escape the “religion”.
