I have some solidworks drawings slddrw from a past project and want to convert them to autocad. Because I am curious and dont have DraftSight what are the advantages of that over saving as.

He would still be working on the file in AutoCAD. I believe the download of draftsight is so he can save it as a dwg since he does not have SW anymore. I completely spaced that fiel in his post. I’ll have to remember DraftSight for future reference.
Opening SLDDRW files
Autodesk’s Inventor Fusion will open SolidWorks files and save them as. It is a free “preview” edition that is operational until April The problem is that the slddrw has to refer to the sldprt and sldasm files to open.
If you dont have these files it can’t be opened. Any program that can do a conversion MUST be flle to open these files as well.

John, With the drawing open do a SaveAs and select. Go to SW website and download DraftSight.
I’m agreeing with Tony here, get DraftSight. Tony, Steve, My free downloaded copy of DraftSight does not open slddrw files. Go to original post.
